Police warning to Scunthorpe bars
Warning letters are to be sent to all late-night bars in Scunthorpe, in a bid to quash fears over crime after police have called for a review of the licence of one of the town's most popular licensed premises. Each late-night venue is to be told to review its admissions policy after midnight to ensure the level of crime does not cause concern to police.
Humberside Police said the levels of disorder in and around Der Schnapps Bar, on Frodingham Road, were a 'serious concern', and have sent an application to North Lincolnshire Council asking for its premises licence to be re-examined. This could mean the licence is revoked or its opening hours could be restricted. Police said the decision to review the licence was the first such application since the 2003 Licensing Act. Supt David Hilditch, from Scunthorpe Police, said: "We are making this application after careful consideration of the evidence, and we will put our case to the licensing committee at a hearing as soon as a date is fixed." A police report submitted to North Lincolnshire Council says crime from the bar is on the up, and flags up two incidents in recent months where two 16-year-old girls became victims of crime in and on leaving the bar.
