Council grant helps retailers launch graffiti-proof paint project

Traders in a Birmingham suburb have joined forces with the city council in a bid to stop graffiti vandals from blighting their shops.

Firms in Acocks Green have signed up to a scheme, which sees graffiti being scrubbed off windows, doors and metal shutters on shops and replaced with special anti-graffiti paint.

New graffiti can still be sprayed onto the special paint, which is being funded by a £31,500 council grant, but can be simply wiped off using a damp cloth.

Council bosses hope vandals will get bored of seeing their ’tags’ and graffiti being wiped away and will eventually give up.
