Project reduces thefts from retailers
A crime prevention scheme run by Huddersfield police is giving retailers the tools to protect themselves, and reducing crime.
A number of businesses in Huddersfield have taken part in a 'Raid Control' project, which aims to raise retail security standards. It is hoped that by giving shop workers and small businesses more safety advice, it will reduce the risk of burglary and theft. Police say the Raid Control scheme is already making a difference. Kirklees Crime Reduction Officer, PC Mark Wall has been working on the initiative and believes other retailers should also consider getting involved. PC Wall said: “We identified a number of small shops and businesses across the Kirklees division which were vulnerable to robberies and other related crimes. We visited those premises and carried out initial surveys to see what was lacking. These premises in Huddersfield have now made the required changes and reached the specified standard to achieve Raid Control certification.” For the rest of this item from the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, click here
