'Crucial Crew' roadshows engage schoolkids

Crucial Crew roadshows and events saw over 2000 Harrogate district children and around 700 Skipton district kids attending. Crucial Crew events offer a range of crime and safety learning opportunities.

Organised by North Yorkshire Police and a team of volunteers, the Crucial Crew events bring together different partner agencies to provide practical teaching on a range of issues.

Local schools attend for either a morning or an afternoon session, broken down into 10x10-minute practical sessions covering safety around electrical installations , underage drinking and anti-social behaviour, road and river  safety, drugs awareness, safety with medicines, farm and fire safety sessions, anti-social behaviour, First Aid, calling 999, Stranger Danger and shoplifting.

The sessions are run by partners which include Harrogate Borough Council, North Yorkshire County Council, the Ministry of Defence Police, the Health and Safety Executive, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, St John’s Ambulance, Asda, Northern Rail, Jarvis, British Transport Police, Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, Craven Organisation for Drugs and Alcohol, Safer Craven Community Partnership, Primary Care Trust, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Group and Social Services.
