Alcoholics urged to exclude themselves from pubs and bars
Alcoholics in Yarmouth, Norfolk, are being urged to exclude themselves from pubs and bars in the town. Names and mugshots are circulated to participating venues, where they will be refused service.
The 'Count Me Out' scheme allows people in Yarmouth to ban themselves from purchasing or consuming alcohol in bars or clubs. It is aimed at individuals who want to stop being able to buy alcohol, and their decision is agreed with a health professional. The Count Me Out scheme was launched this week with the aim of reducing street drinking and anti-social behaviour in the town from known individuals fuelled by booze. It is the first scheme of its kind in the country and is being supported by the Great Yarmouth Safer Neighbourhood team, police and local bars and clubs. Inspector Nick Russell, who is helping to co-ordinate the scheme from the police teams in the town, said: “It's a voluntary thing and anyone can sign up. We've already had a handful of people who are dependent on alcohol saying they want to be part of the scheme.”
