Crime prevention card goes county-wide
A crime-prevention initiative that started in Lady Bay is spreading across Notts. The 'Two Steps Ahead' card originally produced in 2000 offers 29 simple tips to help reduce house and car crime.
By last October the card had been delivered to 7,000 homes across Rushcliffe. Now Nottinghamshire County Council has funded another 30,000 cards, which can be stuck on a fridge for safekeeping, ready for distribution throughout the county. The 'Two Steps Ahead' card was designed by West Bridgford Neighbourhood Watch member Don Read back in 2000 and offered 29 simple tips to help reduce house and car crime. Says Don: "I didn't think in my wildest dreams it would get further than West Bridgford." The reverse side of the original cards displayed 16 important contact details, plus space for five personal telephone numbers. The new county council cards have 27 security tips, and on the back there are 13 important contact numbers plus the council's main number.
