Aussie pubs face tougher restrictions to reduce violence
The State government of New South Wales is extending its crackdown on alcohol-fuelled violence in pubs and clubs by compelling venues that record more than eight assaults in a year to tighten alcohol and security management.
The move is an extension of the existing scheme whereby venues that record more than 19 violent assaults in a year face a wide range of restrictions including a 2am lockout, a 10-minute break in service every hour and a ban on glassware after midnight. Venues with more than 12 incidents a year will be stop serving drinks 30 minutes before closing time, to desist from using glassware after midnight and to cease serving alcohol for 10 minutes an hour after midnight unless they serve free water and food. Reclassification of venues will be possible twice a year based on a review of assault data. Read the rest of this item from the Sydney Morning Herald here
