Budget alcohol unit price now averaging at 17p
Alcohol is now so cheap teenagers can binge-drink on their pocket money, according to a survey of 10,000 teens in the North West.
The alarming research by Professor Mark Bellis, of Liverpool John Moores Universityshows the average price of budget alcohol is 17p a unit - that is about £1.36 for a two-litre bottle of cider. More than 80% of 15 to 16-year-olds said they booze and three in 10 admit drunken violence. A further one in eight have had sex while smashed which they later regret.
