After the party: Newquay prepares for next year
Afte a summer which saw the alcohol-related death of two holidaying teenagers, police in Newquay have announced measures to tackle drunk and disorderly behaviour in the town.
A "designated public spaces" order is being established to cover the whole town and surrounding areas. It will give police the power to confiscate alcohol and stop on-street drinking. The force said it would confiscate alcohol from under-18s and put more officers on the beat, in trains and at campsites. People who are drunk or under the influence of drugs will be removed from the streets. Police patrols will confiscate alcohol from stag and hen parties and under-18s. Following the two deaths in the summer, involving falls from cliffs, the Newquay Safe Partnership was set up and is now improving fencing along the cliffs and erecting new safety signs.
