Pubs to turn into part-time youth clubs in Cambridgeshire

Pubs across South Cambridgeshire could open their doors to children as part of a new initiative to meet the demand for youth clubs. Using pubs as a meeting place for youngsters could also bring much-needed new business to hard-pressed pubs.

The aim of the scheme - Pubs 4 Kids - is to allow teenagers to use a dedicated room in participating pubs between 5.30pm and 8pm, where they can order soft drinks and snacks as well as use facilities such as jukeboxes, pool tables and pinball machines.

Two pubs have already signed up with more to follow.

According to Chris Wiseman, police community support officer for Sawston "This is about giving young people a chance to go to the pub and socialise like adults and be treated like adults. We fully support this idea as it gives young people something to do, rather than hanging around on the street"
