Volunteers to help reduce crime
Volunteers with a London charity can help to tackle crime and reoffending in their community while boosting their CV. The JustPeople programme aims to connect those wishing to work in justice with organisations seeking volunteers in a bid to tackle the root causes of crime.
The scheme, run by Pact, offers volunteers training, vetting, placements and ongoing support and development in the field. Their training also looks at potential pitfalls of volunteering in the sector. Andy Keen-Downs, chief executive officer of Vauxhall-based Pact, which supports offenders, ex-offenders and their families, said: "As things stand, the lack of support for ex-offenders and their families means that around half of them are likely to be re-convicted of at least one further crime within the first year after release.
