New Taxi 'App' can help reduce illegal cab trade
A smartphone App developed by Harlow Council could help to reduce the number of illegal cabs on the streets. The council has announced that the system will now be rolled out across neighbouring areas too.
Harlow’s taxi license scanner was designed and developed by council staff and allows individuals to check whether a cab is fully licensed by scanning a code displayed in taxi ranks or typing registration number into the Harlow Council website. According to the council, almost 950 residents of the Essex town have used the service since its launch in June, and now the council is working with the wider local government sector to make the service available across the country. The system, called Taxi Check Live, has proven to be a success, and user-numbers are growing. Users simple access a smartphone-optimised webpage histed on the Harlow website to check the licence number of the cab in which they are travelling or are about to travel. You can visit the webpage here. Read the rest of this item from LocalGov.co.uk here
