Street briefings help crime reduction partnership to engage more retailers
Sophie Jordan, crime manager at G-Safe, the Gravesham business crime reduction partnership, organises street intelligence briefings that take place every morning outside one of the town stores. They help to engage a wider range of local shops - including those which are not always easy to reach.
Store managers are happy to allow attendance as the briefing only lasts about 10 minutes. The message is always the same - prevent and deter. If there are days when there are no police available, the briefing still goes ahead.
The meetings provide members with the opportunity to have up to the minute information on new offenders, incidents and exclusions to take back to their store staff rather than wait for the scheduled members' meeting to share information.
The briefings have been very successful in bringing the town security officers more closely together - they are more willing to assist each other as they have become more than just a voice on the radio. By by putting a face to the voice, it has encouraged more engagement.
