Police to wear cameras as they fight crime

Grampian Police officers in Aberdeenshire are to wear video cameras to help in the fight against crime. The move comes following the success of the devices in Aberdeen city. Officers have already praised the cameras for allowing them to spend more time in their communities and for their evidence-gathering capability.

Inspector John Esson said: “The use of these cameras by police, community and traffic wardens throughout Aberdeenshire could cut crime, improve service delivery, reduce the time officers spend on paperwork and provide staff with some additional protection.

"Their use is particularly effective at combating anti-social behaviour and alcohol-fuelled disorder. As the cameras accurately record the actions of all those involved, it also provides for increased accountability and transparency."

The overt cameras take clear and accurate digital video, are lighter than a mobile phone and can provide potentially crucial evidence.
