Minister gets the low-down on local business crime
Andy Sharman, crime manager for Somerset West Business Against Crime, had a chance to show Home Office minister for crime prevention, Jeremy Browne, the reality of local-level business crime on a recent visit by the minister to Taunton.
Browne was briefed on the important role of BCRPs in the community and their value in helping to prevent and deter crime as well as the considerable amount of other work they are involved in with local statutory agencies and other organisations. The minister, who also met with Richard Barron, chief executive of the Association of Business Crime Partnerships, said, “crime against business is a serious issue. It is certainly not a victimless crime. It adds costs to businesses which pushes up costs and makes it harder for them to afford to employ new staff. “The Association of Business Crime Partnerships is a nationwide network and I was pleased to be able to meet their chief executive for a meeting here in Taunton. Tackling business crime needs organisations to work in partnership, including the police, local councils and the businesses themselves. Read the full report from the ABCP, here
